The Bible tells us that there is a time for everything. “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die.” – Ecclesiastes 3. Jesus was so plugged into God timing that he was able to stay where he was ministering while his friend lay dying. On the face of it this seems rather cruel and heartless. I am sure that most of us would be rushing to be with Lazarus and the family in his hour of need. But Jesus displayed ultimate faith in God, His word and in his own ability to discern these things correctly! The disciples thought he was staying away because he nearly died last time they went to Judea.
We are often not very secure in our ability to hear and discern – Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity – 1 Corinthians 13:12.
- What would you have done if your good friend lay dying?
- Why did Jesus talk about Lazarus being asleep?
May we keep in step with the Spirit in all our comings and goings.
