John 16:17-33

Read John 16:17-33

The funny thing is that when we become Christians Jesus does not say that life will become a cinch.  On the contrary he says that actually in this world you will have trouble, many trials and sorrows!  When Jesus died the world rejoiced as the disciples wept.  They saw the same event but the reactions were polar opposites.  The things that trouble us and bring sorrow, might even be a source of joy to many.

But just as the disciples sorrow gave way to joy we should not become fearful that somehow God has lost control, but rather take heart that Jesus has the final victory.  Jesus intends us to be filled with peace because of our faith in Him as we faithfully and patiently endure the many trials and sorrows in this life.

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.  But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

  • How do you react to trouble, trials and sorrow?
  • Should life be a bed of roses?
  • What have been the biggest learning experiences in your life?

May we know Jesus well enough to feel peaceful in all circumstances.
