Lent Series for 2010
The 40 day lead up to Easter is called Lent – actually it is 46 days long, but more of that later. During this time many people choose to give up something – like chocolate, alcohol or biscuits. Often the focus is on food but some people have been known to give up TV, sex, or even email…..! When people ask me what I am giving up for Lent I say I am giving up eating liver. “Why? Is liver a big thing for you?” they reply. “No, the truth is I can’t stand the stuff!!” Hardly a big sacrifice….
Lent, of course, is a prelude to Easter. Easter so often sneaks up on us and is there before we have even had an opportunity to think about, or appreciate, exactly what it is we are celebrating. I thought it would be good to take time during Lent to take stock of ourselves and in so doing hopefully enter more fully into the celebration of Easter.
Each week in Lent there are a series of thoughts followed by practical excercises to try with Bible verses to ponder on together with the prayer for that week from the Church of England. There will also be a Bible verse to remember and some suggestions of other things you might like to do or try.
We hope you find the series stimulating and that it brings you closer to the Father with a deeper insight into what Jesus did for us on the cross. We pray the Spirit will guide you as run through the weeks ahead. We'd love to hear any feedback that you might have.
