Connect Church Values

We value the life changing work of the Holy Spirit

We do all the normal stuff, like believing in the Bible and worshipping God but our emphasis is on allowing God, through His Holy Spirit, to let us experience Jesus in tangible ways that will affect our lives and our characters.  We value experiences of God.  We celebrate personal spiritual growth – progress, not perfection.  We believe that we are all learners and that no one person knows all there is to know about God, but that together we get a better picture of Him.

We value relevance

We want to be relevant, informal, friendly and contemporary whilst still holding on to the awesomeness of God and the age old truth of the gospel.  We are looking to find different ways of doing “church”, to make the presence of God “everyday” so that it permeates and becomes an integral part of all areas of our lives.  Sunday needs to be a part of the week…..

We value being real

We believe that our actions speak so loudly that they drown out the majority of what we actually say.  We are therefore looking to be people of honesty and integrity – admitting failure and not pretending to a level of spirituality we do not yet have.  We recognise that, along with the rest of humanity, our theology is not 100% correct; if we knew where it was deficient we would fix it!  We are more than able to laugh at ourselves……

We value people

God loved people enough to have his son killed so that we could be in a relationship with Him.  People of all ages matter to God.  We are looking to be caring for one another and people beyond our immediate group to the point where other people see the difference.  Families are important.  We also want to help the poor and disadvantaged.  We believe everyone has something to bring and we encourage everyone to use their unique set of gifts to serve as best they can.  God gave us free will so that we could choose to love Him.  We think people should have the right to choose and so everything is optional…you will not be coerced into something you don’t want to do.

We value connections

Man was made to connect with God and with other people.  The primary connection is with God and unless people are connected with God they try to connect with other people and things that they believe will give them life in an unhealthy way.  Many people today feel disconnected.  We encourage everyone to be part of a supportive network so that they feel connected to other people.  This could be via extended families, friendships, small groups, Book club, To Do Team, etc.  We love events that connect with people we don’t yet know such as Wine tasting, 1-2-1 weekends, Lunchbreak, etc.  We discourage cliques and closed circles of friends.

We value worship

The chief reason man exists is to glorify God and enjoy Him.  We believe that as we worship God we are doing what we were made to do – and that feels good!  We worship when we come together and encourage people to do so at home.

We value the Bible

We value the Bible as the word of God.  We think it works best when it is used as a mirror to apply God’s truth practically to our lives.

We value stories

Life could be thought of as a bunch of stories strung together.  We love to be encouraged by hearing how people are experiencing God and love to tell stories about Him.

Statement of Belief

Our Statement of Belief is the Nicene Creed which was adopted in AD 325 by a council of Christian Bishops as a concise statement of orthodox Christian belief.  We reckon it's as true today as it was all those years ago and doesn't need fiddling with!
